US calls for pressure to end Sudan war
The US special envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, has called for pressure to bring the country's two warring parties to the negotiating table.
Speaking to the BBC after his first visit to the country since taking office, Mr Perriello warned that the 18-month-old conflict could pose a security threat to the central African region.
The special envoy also called on those he called "backstage instigators" to stop sending weapons to the country and called on the international community to show greater commitment to ending the conflict.
Mr Perriello also called on the country's military and the RSF to respect international humanitarian law and allow aid to reach areas hit by the fighting, including the capital, Khartoum, and the Gezira state.
