Two-thirds of Nigerian households lack access to nutritious food - NBS

The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says a survey it conducted has found that two-thirds of households in Nigeria lack access to nutritious food.

The survey, conducted by the agency, focused on the increasing poverty among households in the country and the impact it has on the decline in consumer spending due to rising prices.

“About two-thirds of Nigerian households are unable to eat nutritious food or cook their own meals due to poverty,” the survey report said.

The survey also found that 63.8 percent of households in the country eat too little due to lack of money, while 62.4 percent of households are worried about not having enough food, and 60.5 percent of households cannot afford to eat the food they should.

The study report comes less than a month after a report released by the Nigerian government with the support of the United Nations showed that more than 33 million Nigerians will face food insecurity by 2025.
