Airline workers threaten to shut down flights in Nigeria

Airline workers’ unions have threatened to shut down all airports in Nigeria from March 31, 2025.

The workers said they would take action if the government does not sack a customs officer they accused of assaulting the director of security at the country’s airport authority.

The unions issued a joint statement expressing their dissatisfaction over the actions of the anti-smuggling officer.

The unions complained about the continued harassment of airport workers.

The Nigerian customs authority described the incident at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos as a misunderstanding that led to a rift between it and the director.

The agency’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Mai Wada Aliyu, said the agency was committed to strengthening inter-agency cooperation.

This includes mutual respect and improving working conditions.
