Trump promised in a new Truth Social post, "I'll replace the stone, charge the contractor, and never let that contractor work at the White House again."
President Donald Trump is mad at the "stupid people" who left a "gash" in the White House Rose Garden's new limestone.
In a long post on Truth Social on August 30, the president, who is 79 years old, went on and on about the "huge" flaw. He also included security footage of what he said was the exact moment it showed up in the stone patio. Since then, he fired the contractor who was in charge of the group that caused the "gash," and he said in the post that he would "never" let them come back to the White House.
“At the White House, I used the most beautiful marble and stone that could be found anywhere,” Trump started the post. "As a Builder, surfaces are very important to me." Everyone knows that over the years I've built a lot of GREAT Buildings and other things. I'm very proud of the beautiful brickwork we did in the Rose Garden at the White House. In this case, we used limestone plus.
"The Rose Garden is finished, and it's much more beautiful than anyone ever imagined when it was first thought of, decades ago," he said, then remembered the moment he found the flaw in the newly finished patio.
Trump wrote, "Three days ago, I was admiring the stonework when I saw a huge cut in the limestone that went for more than 25 yards." It was nasty and deep! Someone did this, and I want to know about it right now! I yelled.
He then made it clear that he "didn't say this in a nice manner" while yelling it.
"I asked myself, 'Was it vandalism or stupidity?'" "Lo and behold, because we put in the best security equipment anywhere, they brought back the stupid people while their boss watched (in sunglasses!)," the president said, referring to what could be seen in the surveillance video he added to the post.
"A subcontractor was putting down heavy landscaping on a broken and tilting steel cart," he explained. "The cart was rubbing hard against the soft, beautiful stone." Two of the workers pushed a plant around the garden on a cart while another used a leaf blower in the 40-second video that Donald added to his post. The cart fell off the stone for a moment as they turned a corner and got stuck. They had to lift it back out and keep going. Donald recognized the boss, who showed up later in the video holding a leaf blower as well.
From the movie itself, it's not clear where the "gash" is.
Early in June, work began on renovating the White House Rose Garden. A White House official called the new building a "restoration" and told that both Donald and Melania Trump "have deep respect for the history of the White House and for the Rose Garden."
"This restoration to the Rose Garden preserves the beauty of the space and builds on the work done in 2020," the official said, referring to Melania's controversial redesign of the historic area that made headlines, "with a focus on improving practical use and guest experience for those attending special events."
