A man in Florida says a bear attacked him as he was leaving his house.
According to WESH 2 and USA Today, 23-year-old Alexander Rojas of Apopka, an Orange County city, said that he was going for work around 4 a.m. local time on August 15 when he was posed with two young black bears.
There is scary video from Rojas's Ring camera that was shared with WESH 2. It shows him going out onto his front porch. He looks up and sees something that scares him. That's when a bear charges toward him. The video stops just before the bear touches the person.
Rojas told WESH 2 that the bear "turned around, took a few more stuttering steps toward me, bit my arm, and then clawed my rib cage." "I was able to kick his feet out and hit him in the nose," Rojas added.
He said he ran to a neighbor's house and called his girlfriend there.
"She thought she heard me yelling and telling her to get me towels." "I was drenched in blood," he shared. He also said that he got tetanus and rabies shots at the emergency room.
This is being looked into by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, according to WESH 2.
Rojas wrote more about what happened on a GoFundMe page that his sister, Yhelisa Rojas, set up to help pay for his hospital bills.
"At that very moment, I had three choices," he remembered. "Try to open the door while the bear was still within five feet, run to the left to find another bear about 30 feet away that was about the same size, or run to the right to find the mother bear in the woods."
"I had to decide quickly while under a lot of stress." In the end, I got away from both bears by jumping over a car and going into a space farther down the street, he said.
He also said, "I want to make it clear that I did not hurt or kill any of the bears." During the meeting, no bears were hurt. Sharing this information is only meant to make people more aware in the community.
In addition, Rojas said that the bite might have hurt nerves or tendons in his wrist.
