The boss says, "I can't wait to see Viola put on their Waller pants again."
James Gunn says Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, will come back, but it might take longer than everyone thought.
People exclusively talked to Gunn at the opening of DCU's Peacemaker season 2 in New York City on August 13. Gunn said that he and Peter Safran, co-CEO of DC Studios, are still working on the Amanda Waller show starring Davis, 60.
As for what will happen, the 59-year-old director says, "We're working on it." "Some things have gone by faster than others." Waller hasn't been the fastest.
He also says, "But I can't wait to see Viola put on their Waller pants again."
In an X post that has since been removed, Gunn also talked about the choice to release Peacemaker's second season before the Waller show. He said that some "shuffling" was "done" for a "variety of reasons."
"We won't start making a process if the script isn't finished, unlike most studios." "Quality is the most important thing," he said on X.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year, Safran agreed with Gunn that the project has had its share of problems.
“We’ve tried a few times but still haven't been able to land,” Safran told the news source in February. "The road to Waller has been rough."
Even though they had trouble with Waller, Gunn and Safran were able to keep John Cena's Peacemaker story going more smoothly.
At the premiere event, Gunn told PEOPLE that the second season goes deeper into the character's journey, moving from "coming to terms" with the problems that shaped him in season one to finally facing them "head-on."
Gunn also said it was easier to continue Peacemaker's story from the last DCEU movie. He said it only needed a "couple of minor permutations" and "fine, we're in DCU all good and dandy."
The movie director's next DC Comics projects are Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which stars Milly Alcock, and Lanterns, which stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler.
