Rudy Giuliani has been badly hurt in a car crash.
Michael Ragusa, former New York City mayor's head of security, shared a post on Instagram that said Giuliani, 81, was part of the incident in New Hampshire on Saturday, August 30.
Giuliani, Ragusa said, "was flagged down by a woman who was the victim of a domestic violence incident" and "immediately rendered assistance and called 911."
He stayed at the scene until responding police arrived to make sure she was safe." "Shortly thereafter, while driving on the highway, Mayor Giuliani's car was rear-ended at high speed," the statement read.
Ragusa said that the lawmaker was "taken to a local trauma center where he was diagnosed with a broken thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations and contusions, left arm and lower leg injuries."
The New York Post named his business partner as Maria Ryan, who did show up at the hospital in New Hampshire to "lead his care" shortly afterward. According to the site, Ryan is also a nurse.
"He's having more tests and getting stabilized for the injuries," Ryan told the Post.
Ragusa said the former Associate Attorney General is expected to be hospitalized for two or three days prior to wearing a brace to protect his broken vertebrae.
"The mayor is in good spirits. He is a beast. "He survived 9/11," Ragusa said, referring to Giuliani's 1994-2001 stint as mayor of Manhattan.
