It wasn't just personal for Affleck to show support for his fiancée–turned–ex–turned–wife–turned–ex; he also executive produced the movie through Artists Equity, the company he runs with his long-time friend Matt Damon. People says Lopez thanked Affleck directly during her introduction before the movie: "Thank you, Ben." Without Ben and Artist Equity, this movie would not have been made. That evening, Affleck returned the love in an interview with Extra on the red carpet. He said that Lopez found "the role she was born to play" in Kiss of the Spider-Woman.
"I can't wait for people to see this movie because she's so great in it," he said, adding, "It was clear to me from the start that Jennifer was either going to die or be great in this." She was going to do her best. She worked very hard, and this part lets you see all of her many skills.

They met for the first time on the set of their movie Gigli in 2002. By the end of the year, they were engaged, but by the beginning of 2004, they were no longer together. After that, they stayed friends for another fifteen years, but their friendship grew stronger, and in 2021, they started dating again (again). The next year, they got engaged again, got married a few months later, and then in August of last year, they asked for a divorce.
Through Artists Equity, Affleck and Damon have helped bring seven films into the world. Kiss of the Spider-Woman is the eighth. The movie is based on Terrence McNally's 1992 musical of the same name, which was based on Manuel Puig's 1976 play. It was directed by Bill Condon. Kiss of the Spider Woman was already made into a movie in 1985, with Sônia Braga, a famous Brazilian actress, playing all three roles: Ingrid Luna, Aurora, and The Spider Woman. Lopez plays all three roles in the 2025 version.
Condon told Entertainment Weekly in September that Lopez was a great choice for the role because "she is a contemporary diva in a world that doesn't have many... that's what this version needed." And someone who could really make you feel like you're in the world of Hollywood shows from the 1940s and 1950s. Not many people could do that.
