"I'm so grateful that he did it the way he did so that I looked good, and we have these photos that we'll have and cherish for the rest of our lives that I'm not looking at being like, 'What was I wearing?'" she told the site.
As well as joking that she was completely blacked out at the time, she said that the proposal was one of the best days of her life. "We were at Malibu, which is my happy place," she said. "And it was magical," Allen recalled the proposal in the December 6 issue of Steinfeld's newsletter to her fans, Beau Society, in which she did a mini Q&A with her then-fiance.
"I think I was most afraid that you would find out about the proposal," Allen told her. "It was tough to keep secrets from you and have other people in your life keep secrets from you." Several times a day, a song would play and I would cry thinking about how special this day was going to be.
Ultimately everything turned out as planned. "I didn't blow it and nobody else did either," he said. "You were very shocked, you said yes, and that was all that mattered to me. And the sun was out, and he said, 'It feels unbelievable to be engaged to someone who is so special and loving and caring and gorgeous and fun and happy.'
According to PEOPLE, Allen and Steinfeld were in a romance since May 2023. They made their relationship public on Instagram in July 2024 and got engaged four months later.
