Since October 2025, the Hokkaido University MEXT Scholarship will assist foreign students who desire to begin graduate school in Hokkaido University.
Japanese government provides scholarships, that is MEXT Japan Scholarships, that cover the fees, travel expenses as well as providing a monthly stipend to some students pursuing the Masters and Doctoral degrees.
The Hokkaido University MEXT Scholarship is another scholarship that is offered to foreign students who have excelled in college and wish to pursue a Master or Doctoral degree in the Graduate School of Environmental Science at Hokkaido University.
Students who received a scholarship to attend the Graduate School of Environmental Science in October 2025 through the Japanese Government (MEXT) in the course of the Graduate Program of Environmental Conservation Leadership in Post SDGs.
In order to compete with the MEXT Japan Scholarship, you must:
1. Be are outside of Japan graduate students, who have excelled in school and are either new students to Japan or are already in Japan.
2. possess a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.30 or more in their degree related (in case they have employment) or present studies and have the capacity to maintain that GPA when receiving the scholarship.
In addition, such candidates should fulfill either of the following language criteria:

Master’s course: 144,000 JPY
Doctoral course: 145,000 JPY
