Spider-man Tom Holland discusses Captain America: Civil War.

Discover what Tom Holland revealed about his experience filming Captain America: Civil War. Learn how his debut as Spider-Man changed his career forever. The actors of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have managed to keep some of their secrets even as it is growing larger and bigger. Examples: Until a few days ago, despite our awareness that a deal had been brokered between Marvel and Sony to include Spider-Man in the MCU, it was quite a bit of teeth-pulling to get any individual to confirm that the webslinger would, in fact, be featured in Captain America: Civil War, which opens on May 6 next year.

However, now that we have real evidence that Spidey will be flying around during the fight between Captain America and Iron Man, how exactly will he be involved in the fight, and how much of him will we be receiving?

Marvel Studios is such a secretive lot that Tom Holland, the 19-year-old who will portray Spider-man in the movie is not even sure what Spider-man is doing. During a visit to SiriusXM, the Entertainment Weekly Radio, Holland said, "I have no idea what a Civil War is about. I had only been working at it a week or two weeks or something. Therefore, they proposed that I read the script and I replied that I do not want to read it, as I will be conducting all these interviews and I will find myself spilling secrets and other things. I've got such a big mouth.' So it is really nothing that I know. I will watch this movie as a viewer, not one who is part of it. I will say, I guess what my bits are like?

Holland, who is also appearing in the new Ron Howard movie In the Heart of the Sea (opening this Friday) did acknowledge that the most difficult part was in attempting to secure the job. Holland stated that he used his dance and gymnastics background to his auditions after he was informed that Civil war director Anthony and Joe Russo were impressed he used those skills to play the role. Whenever I had a chance, I was simply doing back flips and all those kinds of stuff to make them believe me, he said. "Like, 'Look Marvel! I'm a gymnast! Please give me the role! I now am so near to sticking to walls!

To audition to play Spider-Man, Holland had to go through readings before he was called in to work with Robert Downey, Jr. So threatening, said Holland. The thing was, though, I entered the room on this soundstage, and they had this little set, and Robert led me aside and said, I have a memory of my screen test in Iron Man. I recall the fear that I felt. Simply consider it as an audition. It's nothing too scary. You see, when you are wrong we start all over. No pressure.' But that sort of made the pressure a little higher with me. But he was huge and highly supportive, and since he claimed that he had been there and that he had been on the same position, it allowed me to ease a bit.

Holland also has a co-star in In the Heart of the Sea, Chris Hemsworth, with whom he hopes to have an opportunity to share scenes with Spider-Man and the great Thor. The marvel universe is so big and I do not even know where Thor is at present. Where is he going, where is he going? says Holland. I would like to meet Chris once again. I get along with him very well, but he is too handsome. My initial encounter with him was a pinch me moment. I was 16 years old and a massive fan of marvel and when he first stepped on set it was a bit overwhelming, since he is Thor. But he is so down to earth and so good and business like and hard working. He's an all-around good dude. I believed that Hollywood superstars such as himself would only be divas who can do whatever they wish and he was the first person I had met. But he wasn't like that at all. He never whined and this is a huge lesson that I learnt. I thought, 'Well, when he is not complaining, who should I complain?

What was he supposed to whimper about? Indeed the waves of the freezing cold water thrown in his face continuously when creating In the Heart of the Sea, which resulted in some interesting aftereffects on his wardrobe. The trousers I wore that day on the film would stand by themselves, after a days work, said he. They would be so wet, and then they would get rock hard and I could stand them on their own.

You can also listen to the entire interview with Holland on the radio by listening to What to Watch on Entertainment Weekly Radio (SiriusXM 105) on Monday, Dec. 14 at noon ET. In theaters this Friday is in the Heart of the Sea.
