When the Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage spoke about her initial reception of one of the biggest hits of Mavin Records, Dorobucci, fans were shocked.
In a recent interview with NotJustOk, Tiwa Savage admitted that she did not like Dorobucci after she first heard that song as she was told by Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy.
Tiwa explains that Don Jazzy played the song to them when they were all in Dubai on account of her wedding. The sound was rude enough, however, to please her not at all, coarse and unpolished as it was.
As you may recall, Tiwa Savage was a Mavin Records artist between 2012 and 2019. By the time of its release in 2014, when the song "Dorobucci" came out, it was an instant hit among all the stars of Mavin Records at that point, including Korede Bello, D'ija, Reekado Banks, Dr. Sid, Don Jazzy, and Tiwa Savage herself.
That was followed by the fact that "Dorobucci" had become one of the most popular Afrobeats songs of the decade topping the Nigerian and African charts. Mavin Records had been a huge music company, but this song further improved the fortunes of many artistes in the label then.
Tiwa laughed and replied, I am not sure whether other people are aware of this, but I truly thought that Don Jazzy played Doro-bacci in the hotel when we went to Dubai to my wedding and I have not found it to be such a bad song.
She changed her mind after she listed to the finished record when she returned back to Nigeria.
Tiwa, the singer, remarked, "I dismissed it when I returned to Nigeria and heard the song that I had heard him play in Dubai. It had been the same with "Eminando" as well, and I did not like it, so I was very angry.
Elsewhere, Tiwa revealed that she was the last Mavin artist to record her vocals on "Dorobucci" because she did not know how the song was going to sound, despite her labelmates being enthusiastic about the song.
It was her final time of recording her line. She joked and looked at all of them and said, Do you guys really like this?
Tiwa eventually got on board, though she was initially reluctant. The rest is history as they say. The singer of the song Somebody Son was complimenting Don Jazzy and his unparalleled creativity and planning.
They all know what became of the record. What Don Jazzy does, I know not; but that was... I was not disposed to relate to him what I heard. "Man, who the hell is that?" I enquired, Do he make this song to Reekado? Could it be D'ija or Korede? This was really incredible because I had no clue that I was going to be featured in the song as well. I would like to shout out to Don Jazzy too, she said.
