The states of Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara sued Nigeria's Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, for allegedly refusing to comply with the order of the Supreme Court on the validity period of old currency notes.

In a new case that they filed before the court, the three states warned the minister of justice of the country to the governor of the CBN for not complying with the decision of the court on February 3.

The states said that the implementation of the system has put the communities of their states in a difficult situation.

On the 8th of the month, the Supreme Court of the country restrained the CBN from the deadline it set to stop using the country's old currency notes after the three states filed a lawsuit challenging the deadline.

However, the country's justice minister, who is representing the federal government in the case, said that the Supreme Court has no jurisdiction to intervene in the matter.

And the teacher said that the plaintiffs did not include CBN in the case.

Later, seven states joined the list of states that support the three states, while two states supported the federal government.
