In Zamfara, gunmen kidnap an INEC electoral officer with election results.
Bashir Shagari, the electoral officer in charge of the Maradun Local Government Area in Zamfara State, has been abducted by unidentified gunmen.
A source claims that Shagari was on his way to the INEC collation center in Gusau to deliver the results of the governorship election for the Maradun Local Government on Monday when he was abducted.
The source added that the electoral officer and other INEC employees were detained on a bridge close to Maradun town and taken to an unspecified location at the time.
Muktari Janyau, the state's INEC public relations officer, confirmed the occurrence to The PUNCH and stated that the problem had been reported to the police headquarters.
Professor Sa'idu Babura Ahmed, the resident electoral commissioner in charge of the Zamfara State, has reported the problem to the police commissioner for necessary action, according to Janyau.
As of the time this story was filed, SP Mohammed Shehu, the state police command's spokeswoman, could not be reached for comment.
The opposition PDP is currently in the lead in seven local governments, with results from nine of the 14 local government areas having been declared.
