Eric Montross has cancer, according to his family. He won the Indiana state high school basketball title with Lawrence North and the NCAA title at North Carolina.

In a tweet posted Saturday on the Carolina Basketball account, Montross's family said that he is starting treatment at the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center in North Carolina.

In a statement, the family said, "Of course, our family is very worried, but we have been fighting against children's cancer for nearly 30 years and know the incredible progress that is being made in oncology treatments as well as the power of love, prayer, support, and optimism." "We are all moved by how people have responded to our family since the news got out.

"Your help is more than appreciated; it's needed to beat cancer one day at a time." The only way we know how to deal with Eric's diagnosis is to face it head-on as a family. And we're all fighting together."

Eric, Laura, Andrew, and Sarah Montross were said to have said it.

Montross works as a radio commentator for North Carolina games and also helps raise money for the school's sports teams.

After eight years in the NBA, he quit. In the 1994 NBA Draft, Boston picked him ninth overall.
