31 trucks will bring back Nigerians from Sudan - Federal Government
The Nigerian government has said that 31 trucks have been prepared to retrieve citizens who are stuck in Sudan, to take them to Egypt where they will be taken on planes to Nigeria.
The secretary general of the country's humanitarian ministry, and the head of the center that monitors the situation of citizens in Sudan, Dr. Nasir Sani Gwarzo, said this shortly after a secret meeting with senior officials of the ministry in Abuja.
He said that 31 passenger trucks have been provided for the purpose of evacuating the countrymen who are stuck in Sudan, and each vehicle has been paid 30,000 dollars.
He said that the delay at the border of Egypt was caused by the failure of the central bank to pay the money on time, with the demand for payment according to the Egyptian government.
Dr. Nasir Gwarzo said, the owners of the vehicles demanded to be paid their money in full, even though they are aware that it is not possible to send money directly to Sudan, they have to have representatives.
He added that the ministry is working with the country's intelligence agency and the agency that collects intelligence on financial crimes in Nigeria, the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) in paying the money.
