BRANDI WORLEY'S MOTIVE FOR MURDERING HER OWN CHILDREN

The tragic deaths of children like Charlee and Tyler Worley touch the whole community (via WHTR). While her husband slept downstairs, the kids' mother killed them in the middle of the night. In November 2016, a lot of people from the small Indiana town of Darlington crowded into a local church to say goodbye to the Worley kids.

Brandi, who was 30, her husband Jason, and their two kids made up the Worley family. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jason told Brandi he wanted a divorce on November 15, 2016. The next day, on November 16, 2016, Brandi told Jason that she needed to go to a store and buy some craft materials for one of Tyler's school projects. Trib Star says she bought a battle knife instead of the pipe cleaners she told Jason she bought.

A TRAGIC KNIFE ATTACK

The knife was then hidden in her son's room, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Jason played with the kids for a while before bedtime, not knowing what Brandi was up to.

The Journal Review says that there is often a past of abusive parenting in the home when there is a case of filicide. That didn't seem to be the case for Tyler, who was 7, and Charlee, who was 3. But on November 17, Brandi woke Tyler up and asked him if he wanted to spend the night in his sister's room. Brandi stabbed Tyler many times once they were in Charlee's room.

At one point during the attack, Charlee even woke up, but when Brandi told her daughter that she wasn't doing anything, Charlee went back to sleep. Then Brandi used the knife to kill Charlee, too.

The Journal & Courier says that Brandi then started to hurt herself. She later said, "I just wanted to die with them."She didn't do the whole thing. Later, autopsy results showed that both kids had been killed by knife wounds to the neck.

'NOW YOU CAN'T TAKE THE KIDS FROM ME

The Journal & Courier said that early on November 17, Brandi called her mother after she struck Tyler and Charlee, and her mother rushed over to the house. Around 4:30 a.m., Jason woke up to the screams of his wife's mother, who had just found the dead bodies of her grandkids.

Jason was sleeping in the basement when he heard screams. He ran up to see what was going on. The Journal & Courier says that Brandi then turned to Jason and said, "Now you can't take the kids away from me." She is said to have never apologized for killing her children.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Brandi then called 911 and told the operator that she had cut herself and killed her two young children. She told the 911 operator that she had also taken a lot of Benadryl, and her words were slurred as she did so. She did this quietly and without showing any emotion.

A LIFE SENTENCE

After Brandi admitted what she had done, she was taken to the hospital to treat the knife cuts she had given herself. She talked to the sheriff of Montgomery County, Mark Casteel. He told her that Brandi didn't seem sorry for killing her children. The Journal & Courier said in 2018 that Brandi had still never apologized for what she did in November 2016. Even Brandi's lawyer said he didn't know why she suddenly went crazy and killed them.

At Brandi's sentence, Judge Harry Siamas of the Montgomery County Circuit Court said, "Sometimes there is no reason. This world is full of darkness. And it gets into our heads and hearts."

According to the Journal Review, Brandi got 120 years in jail for both murders—55 years for killing Tyler and 65 years for killing Charlee. The Journal & Courier says she has depression, which is why she hasn't shown any feelings or reactions to the double murder. Even though she and Jason officially split up in March 2017, they haven't talked since Brandi killed the kids.

Brandi is now living at the Indiana Women's Prison, according to the Indiana Department of Correction. Her long-term won't be over until at least the year 2106.
