Buhari Orders Heads Of North-Eastern Development Agency To Take Action On The Solution To Leave No One Out
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the members of the new executive board of the North-Eastern Development Corporation (NEDC) to start the transition process without wasting time so that there are no leaders left.
The presidents will work before they receive confirmation of their appointment from the Senate as required by law.
A statement to the press signed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Charity, Relief and Life Improvement, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, said that this decision was made to ensure that there are no leaders left.
The President also agreed that the new Managing Director and Chairman of the board, Alhaji Umar Abubakar Hashidu, had also assumed office as an interim before he got the approval of the Senate.
Dr. Gwarzo said that this happened after the expiration of the term of the former chairman of the board and other members on May 7, 2023.
According to him, Buhari also approved the appointment of Lawyer Bukar Baale as acting chairman of the board together with 10 members of the board of directors.
In addition, the president directed the officer currently holding the office of the managing director of the agency to hand over the reins to the new appointee without delay.
Gwarzo said that this order was given to "avoid gaps in the management of daily activities in this very important and effective agency before the time when the Senate will confirm their appointment."
The NEDC Board of Directors consists of the following members: Suwaiba Idris Baba, Senior Director of Charities (from Taraba, North-East); Musa Umar Yashi, Chief Director of Administration and Finance (from Bauchi, North-East); Dr. Isma'ila Nuhu Maksha, Chief Executive Officer (from Adamawa, North-East), and Umar Abubakar Hashidu, Managing Director/CEO (from Gombe, North-East).
Others are Onyeka Gospel-Tony, Member, (from South-East); Horn. Madam Hailmary Ogolo Aipoh, Member (from South-South); Eya Commander Babatunde Akanbi (retired), Member (from South-West); Mustapha Ahmed Ibrahim, Member (from North-West); Hadiza Maina, Member (from the North-Central), Alhaji Grema Ali, Member (from the North-East), and a representative from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning.
