Buhari Will Attend The Coronation Of King Charles In London
President Muhammadu Buhari will attend the coronation of Charles III and his wife Camilla as the King and Queen of England together with other prominent figures from throughout the world.
This was revealed in a statement released on Wednesday by the presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina.
For the coronation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 6, Adesina stated that the president will travel to London, United Kingdom, on Wednesday.
The Commonwealth Secretariat will use the London Summit as an opportunity to organize a summit of Commonwealth Heads of Government on May 5 prior to the coronation.
It was further stated in the announcement that "President Buhari has been requested to attend the meeting to discuss the future of the Commonwealth and the role of the youth."
Boss Mustapha, secretary to the federal government, Geoffrey Onyeama, minister of foreign affairs, Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture, Major-General Babagana Monguno, retired, adviser to the president on security, Ambassador Ahmed Abubakar, director general of the national intelligence agency (NIA), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chair of the board of Nigerians abroad, and other senior government officials will accompany the president.
In order to strengthen ties between Nigeria and Great Britain, Buhari met with King Charles III in November at Buckingham Palace.
The president claimed that the reigning monarch, who succeeded his mother after she passed away, "is very vocal with Nigeria and wants their relationship to continue."
Under the leadership of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in September 2022 at the age of 96, Nigeria attained independence on October 1, 1960.
