According to President Muhammadu Buhari, during his eight years in office, his administration has safeguarded the independence of journalists operating all over the nation.
On Tuesday, Buhari made this announcement while wishing journalists a happy International Journalists Day.
Every year on May 3rd, the day is observed as a holiday.
'Promoting freedom: Enabling free expression as a human right' is the focus of the event this year.
The president declared, "We have continued to give the journalists their freedom, where he added that we have also confirmed that we have given the journalists their freedom to carry out their work."
"On this day, which celebrates the freedom of journalists, we continued to grant them the freedom to do their jobs until we were about to leave the office," he claimed.
Buhari noted that the success was a celebration of the professional journalists when he declared that this year's celebration has been conducted for 30 years since the United Nations General Assembly began. especially those who gave their life in order to communicate with and educate Nigerians.
The president also urged the nation's professional journalists to retain their independence on the basis of principle and not get weary of upholding patriotism in the course of their work, particularly to bring the nation together.
