WFP suspends relief efforts in Tigray region after food was stolen

After learning that the aid was taken, the World Food Organisation and USAid ceased supplying food to the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia.

The food products were allegedly diverted and sold at the neighborhood markets, according to Samantha Power, the director of USAID.

According to her, food deliveries will resume as soon as there is assurance that the intended recipients, who are suffering from hunger, will receive them.

Getachew Reda, the interim governor of the Tigray area, announced that he is putting together a force to address the issue of aid theft.

He urged charity organizations to keep helping the underprivileged.

After two years of fighting between Ethiopian government forces and rebels from the Tigray Residents's Liberation Front, millions of residents in the Tigray region are experiencing food shortages.
