 Amnesty has condemned the killing of a person accused of blasphemy in Sokoto

Amnesty International has called on the Nigerian authorities to ensure that those who killed a man in Sokoto state on suspicion of blasphemy are brought to justice.

In a statement issued by the group, it condemned the killing and demanded the government to investigate the incident which it described as 'horrifying'.

According to the statement, "The increase in blasphemous killings requires the authorities to step up to enforce the law and respect human rights, which include freedom of religion, opinion and speech."

The AFP news agency reported that Ahmad Rufai, the spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Force, said that on Sunday, June 25, some angry youths killed a man named Usman Buda, on suspicion of making abusive comments. to Prophet Muhammad.
