Kenya tax hike 'a mistake' - opposition

The tax increase approved by President William Ruto has been referred to as a "mistake" by Kenya's opposition, according to AFP.

This year, it has already held a protest against the expense of living and is threatening to do so once more.

According to AFP, opposition leader Raila Odinga said

We believe the bill is a mistake and an expensive experiment for Kenyans.

We had thought Ruto would request a review before signing.

The parliament this week approved a number of measures, including a new real estate tax and a doubling of the fuel sales tax from 8% to 16%.

The president declared during his successful election campaign that he would watch out for the needs of the poor, thus some of his followers are upset about the new policies.
