Ribadu has accepted the job of adviser to the President of Nigeria on security matters

Major General Babagana Monguno (retired) officially ceded his position as Nigeria's national security adviser to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, a retired deputy inspector general of police.

After taking office, Ribadu pledged to work hard to realise Nigerians' hopes and to protect the nation from all types of insecurity, including terrorist activities, banditry, abduction for ransom, and other similar crimes, during a meeting on Monday in Abuja.

In his speech, Ribadu stated, "We believe that the time has come for this country to benefit from peace and restore stability and rule of law like every country in the world. We will settle the affairs of this country, we will ensure the security of this country, and we will ensure peace in Nigeria."

"National security is a problem that keeps getting worse. We shall evaluate the prior efforts and expand upon them.

"The president has accepted the enormous burden of making sure that our nation is secure at every turn. To guarantee that this objective is realised, we will collaborate with all parties involved.

In a statement from the office of the National Security Adviser, he stated that "all Nigerians and all of Nigeria's allies are responsible for this important work to ensure the security of our country."

Ribadu, the first director of the EFCC, had previously been chosen to serve as the president's special adviser on security issues.

After a few days, however, President Bola Tinubu nominated new security chiefs in place of all the outgoing ones, including Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who was promoted to the role of security adviser to the president.
