Bazoum was seen for the first time after the coup

Since the military coup against Mohamed Bazoum on Wednesday 26 July 2023, the deposed leader has been seen with Mahamat Idris Deby, the president of Chad.

Mahamat Deby went to Niamey in his attempt to intervene between the coup plotters and the West African Economic Development Organization (Ecowas) which gave the Nigerien army seven days to return Bazoum to power.

Bazoum was overthrown by the security forces of the presidential palace and detained in a part of the presidential palace in Niger.

Since that day, the deposed president has not been seen in public, so his exact condition is not known.

Western countries and international organizations such as the United Nations, Ecowas, the United States, France and even Russia have been calling on the soldiers who staged the coup to release Bazoum and his family.
