Eight people died as a result of an oil tanker explosion in Nigeria

The explosion of an oil tanker in Ondo state, southwest Nigeria, has resulted in the deaths of about eight individuals, according to reliable reports.

When the fire started while town people were removing fuel from the tanker that had an accident on Sunday night, things quickly became ugly.

According to the Ondo State Police, the fuel truck overturned and most of its contents spilled onto the road. Following that, the locals began using the location to gather the oil.

According to a police spokesman who spoke to the BBC, "The tanker burst, killing eight people and injuring many more who were taken to the hospital.

Locals and witnesses claimed that the tank exploded near a petrol station, a church and other buildings, however none of them were damaged by the fire.

Since President Bola Tinubu removed fuel subsidies in June, the price of petrol in Nigeria has increased by 400 percent, driving up the cost of life and consumer goods.
