There are protests in Edo over the rise in fuel prices

Civil society organisations from Edo have protested against the recent hike in fuel prices in the state's capital, Benin.

According to Channels Television, the protesters marched through some major streets while denouncing the rise in the cost of living in Nigeria.

Despite being in dire poverty, the protesters expressed their outrage and criticised the decision to raise the price of petrol.

The Federal Government is intending to implement an 8,000 Naira subsidy programme after eliminating the gasoline subsidy, but the protestors, who were carrying boxes with various writings, condemned the concept.

After President Bola Tinubu declared the end of fuel subsidies, there were protests a few weeks later. Since that time, the cost of commodities and fuel has been rising nationwide.

Although the federal government claims that the decision was made for the country's development, others think it will place the nation in a challenging scenario.

The federal government continued this step by offering to provide 8,000 Naira in aid to Nigerians, but after the idea was criticised, it later indicated it will reassess the issue.

The administration urged Nigerians to exercise patience and stated steps were being taken to lessen the impact of the subsidy's elimination.
