FEMA has warned of floods in Abuja

The Federal Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria, or FEMA, has issued a warning on heavy rains that may result in flooding on Saturday and Sunday in the nation's capital, Abuja, as well as other states.

Nkechi Isa, the agency's public relations officer, said in a statement released on Friday that the agency is issuing the warning after the National Weather Service predicted heavy rains with strong winds, flooding, and landslides in some areas of the states of Katsina, Kano, Bauci, Plateau, Taraba, and Abuja.

Strong winds, landslides, thunderstorms, lightning, and floods with overflowing rivers are all predicted by the National Weather Service, NiMET.

Communities under danger of flooding, which may ruin property and spread disease, have been urged to relocate by NiMET.

Dr. Abbas Idriss, the director general of the Abuja Emergency Relief Agency, stated that the organisation has put its staff on notice to cope with the issue.

Additionally, he urged city residents to follow the agency's warning, refrain from driving or walking in the rain, and stay off any roadways that might flood.

He also urged members of the public to get in touch with the organisation right away if they needed aid right away.
