Fire Destroys Nigerian university women's hostel
A fire burned down the Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) female hostel, which is owned by the state.
Reports say that the fire started around 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2023, when a student ironing her clothes caused an electric spark.
The fires were said to have spread quickly, making the people there worried.
The Federal Fire Service and the Bayelsa State Fire Service came quickly to the emergency and stopped the fire from spreading to other rooms in the building.

Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu, the Vice Chancellor of the school, and Phillip Diete-Spiff, the Chief Security Officer, thanked the fire service officials for how quickly they responded to the emergency.
