One person died, 48 were injured in Johannesburg

Authorities in South Africa evacuated residents and assessed the damage brought on by a probable gas pipeline explosion in Johannesburg.

According to reports, the explosion that caused certain city roadways to close claimed one life while injuring 48 others.

The cause of the explosion on Wednesday afternoon is still under investigation by the police.

Authorities have issued an alert for another explosion and urged people to avoid the scene of the first one.

The closing of some municipal streets to avoid the still-dangerous area was declared by the authorities on Thursday morning.

Officials from the province of Gauteng stated that although the precise cause of the explosion is yet unknown, an underground gas pipeline is thought to be to blame.
