The United Nations has agreed to end the MUNISMA force in Mali

In response to a request from the government of Mali, the United Nations Security Council decided to put an end to the operations of Minusma, the armed force of the National Assembly in Mali.

The Security Council voted decisively to halt the operations of this force, which had been set up in 2013 to assist Mali in battling terrorism and preserving the nation's peace.

The vote was held two weeks after the request was made before Parliament by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdoulaye Diop, who also accused the Minusma command of doing a poor job of its duties.

The army will cease operations as of today, June 30, in accordance with the resolution that the people today approved. However, unlike Mali, who had asked for the troops to be completely withdrawn within three months, the troops will instead be required to withdraw gradually until the end of this year, on December 31.

France and the United States first sought a withdrawal period of 18 months, but on December 31st, they settled on a period of 6 months.
