 Cooper-Shields Scholarships Programme

The Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride presidential scholarship that is offered every year to undergraduate students. It pays for all living expenses throughout the four years of study, including tuition and housing and board. Recipients in any recognised American college or university may use the Coolidge. Anyone can apply to this nonpartisan, need-blind programme, regardless of background or academic field of study.

Junior year of high school is when students apply for the Coolidge Scholarship. The Coolidge Historic Site in Plymouth Notch, Vermont, hosts a finalist weekend for finalists, during which they are flown in to interview with the Coolidge Scholars Finalist Jury. In late May of their junior year, recipients of the Coolidge Scholarship get notification of their award prior to submitting their college applications (current high school seniors are not allowed to apply).

Academic excellence was Calvin Coolidge's only pastime; as a young New Englander, he spoke in public frequently, usually on public policy. Thus, intellectual achievement is the primary factor that sets Coolidge Scholars apart. Additional requirements include a track record of public policy interest, an understanding of the principles Coolidge promoted, and qualities of leadership, service, and humility.
