'Insist on doing trade in naira between you and China'
A senior Nigerian lawyer, Femi Falana, has called on Nigerian businessmen to persist in doing business with the Naira, including using it to pay for goods brought into the country from China.
Channels TV quoted Falana as reminding Nigerians about how the country's government and China signed a currency exchange agreement five years ago.
He pointed out that the transaction worth 16 billion RMB or 720 billion Naira was made to provide sufficient domestic funds for Nigerian and Chinese industrialists and other businessmen, while reducing the problems of faced in seeking US dollars.
Exchanges between the two countries have also been designed to improve the speed and ease of trade between the two countries.
The lawyer added that, despite confirming that the agreement is still in place and working, the central bank of Nigeria has not yet allowed citizens to do business in China using naira.
The incident which he said was necessary, where he urged Nigerian businessmen to insist on doing business in naira, including paying for goods brought in from China.
