How did the California Scholarship Federation get started?
The California Scholarship Federation, Inc. is a non-profit group whose goal is to recognize and support middle and high school students in California to do well in school and help their communities. In middle schools and high schools across the state, there are about 1,500 chapters. Each chapter is made up of students who meet the requirements to join. A member of the team is in charge of each chapter.
Based on their report card grades, eligible students submit applications to become members. Membership lasts for one semester, and each semester, membership drives are held during times set by the State's rules.
Every year, conferences are held, and students are given awards for their good grades and community work.

What You Need to Do to Join Semester
If a student applies and has amassed 10 (ten) CSF points, they are granted membership in CSF. Based on your grades from the last term, you get points based on the following scale.
A is worth 3 CSF points*
B = 1 point CSF*
C = 0 points for CSF
D or F in any course, even if it doesn't count for CSF, disqualifies the student from membership.
*1 extra point for an A or B in an AP, IB, or Honors-designated course, up to a maximum of 2 extra points per semester.
Four of the 10 points must come from courses on List I.
Seven of the ten points, including the four from List I, must come from courses on Lists I and II. All seven points could, of course, come from List I.
The last 3 points can be taken from any list.
To get the 10 points, you can only use 5 courses (or 25 credits).

The California Scholarship Federation (CSF), Inc. gives scholarships to qualified California high school students who want to become Life Members or Sealbearers. This scholarship, which has been around since 1921, is one of the most prestigious awards for high school students in the state of California. Scholarships help high school students not only while they are still in high school but also when they go to college or university. To be a CSF member, you must be a California resident and keep up good grades in school.
Based on what we know, here's what we think:
The first thing we noticed is that this society has its own point system. This is very different from most honor societies, which have strict GPA requirements.
The second thing we noticed was that some students might not be eligible for membership if they have bad behavior. It is up to the adviser and director to decide if someone should lose their license.
Our third observation was that official membership only lasts for one semester and that people are looked at after each semester to see if they can stay members.
