The cause of the collapse of the building that killed 2 people in Abuja

This incident happened at the same time as it was raining like a torrent, and the incident caused the death of two people while 37 others were found at around 11 o'clock on Wednesday night, in a two-storey building that collapsed in Unguwar Garki in Abuja.

At the same time that there was controversy over the words of the new Minister of Tarraiyya Abuja Nyesome Wike that he will demolish buildings that are not fully safe, this two-storey building collapsed and two people lost their lives.

An old man who said he was born in Garki, Alhaji Kasimu Mohammed, explained what he knew about the building saying that it was an old building that was built during the time of former President Sani Abacha, so the building is very old.

Kasimu said that it is a shop building where there are shop tenants and they even sleep in their shops. Kasimu said "the owner of the house had already given the residents a deadline to leave the house, but they had not left before this incident happened."

Another person who lives next to the building named Haruna Aliyu Dass, gave more details on what happened where he said that around 11 o'clock at night they were just sitting when they heard a loud noise of something like a building collapsing. he left where he was sitting and came to the place where the building collapsed and he saw that the building had fallen down so much that it became ruins.

Haruna said that two people died on the spot and many other people were removed, including his brother whose head exploded, and they were taken to the hospital.

He is also the chief officer of the Emergency Relief Agency of the Federal City, Dr. Abbas Idris, explained the challenges associated with such buildings that are constantly being destroyed, where he complained that people do not listen and do not sympathize with the poor, they are greedy and cunning, and they are clever .

Abbas said that people do not follow the instructions of the officials in charge of buildings because they want to get money. He said that this building was originally built as a shop, and the foundation of the building was not a floor. which is not the original type of construction that should be done there.

Abbas said that two people lost their lives, but 37 others were rescued and others are in the hospital. Abbas added that they will continue to dig up the ruins of the building or there will be more people trapped inside.

This is now the third building that collapsed in two months in Abuja. The first one was done in Gwarimpa, then there was another one in Deidei and this one in Garki.

We tried to get an explanation from the building management but the effort was unsuccessful.
