'The story of sending NYSC members to Niger is not true'
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said that it has no plans to send young National Service Corpsmen to the Republic of Niger to fight the coup forces.
The spokesperson of the NYSC, Mr. Eddy Megwa, said that they denied the issue as a result of a video circulating on social media, as reported by the Nigerian news agency NAN.
"There is no flavor of truth in a story created by a comedian," he said. "The country's servicemen and parents should ignore the issue, which is prepared with the intention of sedition."
He added that security forces will arrest the person who created the video.
On Friday, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu asked for the support of the national parliament to send troops under the Ecowas group to Niger to force the soldiers who overthrew the government of Mohamed Bazoum to return to the regime.
However, the parliament did not support the resolution, recommending to continue the efforts to negotiate through diplomacy.
