The Obama-Chesky Public Service Scholarship

We need young people from all over the country who are interested in the world and want to make a difference in it, just like the people who started the scholarship. Students should want to help other people, have experience serving the community or building it up, and have a broad view of what can be done through public service.

The Voyager Scholarship

In a world that is becoming more connected, we need young leaders who can bring people together and help us solve our biggest problems.

The Obamas and Brian Chesky, Co-Founder and CEO of Airbnb, made the Voyager Scholarship to help form future leaders. Even though they come from different places, both the President and Brian agree that going to new places and trying new things helps people understand each other and work together. This gives the next generation the tools they need to make real changes.

The Voyager Scholarship is open to US citizens, permanent residents, or DACA recipients who are starting their junior year of college at an accredited four-year college or university in the US and who have shown a financial need.

This scholarship provides college students with financial assistance to help them pay off their student loans, meaningful travel experiences to broaden their views, and a network of mentors and leaders to support them.

Financial assistance of up to $50,000

For their junior and senior years of college, students will get up to $25,000 per year in "last dollar" financial help. This financial help should make it easier for students to pay off their college debt so they can afford to work in public service.

The Summer Trip

Students who want to work and travel during the summer between their junior and senior years of college will get a salary of $10,000 and free housing through Airbnb. The students will plan their own Summer Voyages to learn about new places and gain experience in an area of their choice.

Fall Meeting

Students will be asked to a summit every year in the fall to help them plan and get inspired for their path to public service.

Leaders' network

Students will be invited to a number of talks that will go on throughout the course of the program, which will give them access to a network of leaders. This network of leaders will let them know about new areas of service and new things going in their fields. After they graduate, they will become part of the global community of the Obama Foundation, which will give them access to Foundation tools and programs.
