Police Confirm Kidnapping of Commissioner in Benue State
The Benue State Police has confirmed the kidnapping of the State Commissioner for Communications, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Mathew Abo.
The spokesperson of the state police force, Madam Sewuese Kate Anene, in a brief message she sent to Voice of America via Whatsapp, said the police have started investigating where the bandits took the commissioner.
Reports indicate that the bandits went to the commissioner's house in Zaki Biam town in Ukum local government, on Sunday night where they kidnapped him on a motorcycle.
Someone who asked to remain anonymous said that bandits kidnapped the former chairman of Ukum local government on Saturday before they kidnapped the commissioner on Sunday, all in the town of Zaki Biam.
In a statement released by the Benue state governor's media relations secretary, Tersoo Kula, he said that the government in collaboration with the security forces is working hard to rescue those who are in the hands of the bandits.
As of the time of writing this report, the authorities have not found the whereabouts of the commissioner and the former chairman of Ukum local government, and the bandits have not called their families to ask for ransom money.
Benue state in the north of central Nigeria has suffered from various security problems including herdsmen and farmers conflict, bandit attacks, ethnic conflict and others.
