The Zamfara government has closed eight cattle markets for selling stolen animals
The government of Zamfara state in northern Nigeria has announced the closure of cattle markets, which are popularly known as dar, due to the alleged sale of stolen cattle by bandits.
A statement issued by the state's information commissioner said the decision affects five local governments in the state, which was adopted by the Zamfara Security Council in its session last Thursday.
The affected markets include Danjibga and Kunchin Kalgo, in Tsafe local government, Bagega and Wuya, in Anka local government, and Dangulbi and Dansadau, in Maru.
The other markets are Dauran in Zurmi local government and Nasarawar Burkullu in Bukkuyim local government.
"The action was taken as a result of the buying and selling of stolen cattle by some bandits," according to the statement signed by Kwamashina Mannir Muazu Haidara.
The commissioner also asked the heads of local governments to ensure that the order is followed.
