Cholera kills 25 in Sokoto - Commissioner

At least 25 people have died and many others have been hospitalized following an outbreak of cholera - a disease that causes vomiting and diarrhea - in three local government areas of Sokoto State.

The state Commissioner for Health, Asabe Balarabe, who disclosed this to newsmen in Sokoto, said that 15 people infected with the disease from Sokoto North, Silame and Kware local government areas are being treated.

Asabe also said that the outbreak has infected 1,160 people and 25 have already died of the disease.

The commissioner, who said that medicines have been distributed to 18 local government areas, said that the state emergency response committees are working hard with the state government to stop the spread of the disease.
