‘We will use modern methods to resolve the farmers-herders conflict’
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has said his government is working tirelessly to find solutions to the farmers-herders conflict.
Speaking after signing a deal with JBS meat processing company in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, President Tinubu said the farmers-herders conflict has been causing property losses in some parts of Africa for a long time.
‘‘The farmers-herders conflict, which causes loss of life and bloodshed, if addressed with modern and civilized methods, will lead to economic growth,’’ the president said.
Following the signing of the deal, JBS meat processing company agreed to invest $2.5 million to build six meat processing plants across Nigeria.
The company said three of the plants would focus on poultry production, while two would process red meat and one would process pork.
President Tinubu said his government would focus on inviting domestic and foreign investors in the livestock and agriculture sectors, which he said would help resolve conflicts between farmers and herders, combat hunger and poverty, and promote economic growth.
