Last season, these two teams played in the semi-finals. Arsenal won 5-3 overall, with wins on the road by both teams.

Arsenal got off to a quick start because they wanted to stop the recent trend of away teams winning. They scored their first goal in the seventh minute.

Beth Mead ducked a tackle on the edge of the box and then quickly played in Alessia Russo, who finished with ease over Christiane Endler.

There were some loose passes in Arsenal's back line, though, which let Dumornay score twice in five minutes and turn the game around.

Daphne van Domselaar, the custodian for Arsenal, messed up a short pass and the Haitian player got the ball right away. The first shot Dumornay took was stopped, but she put the rebound into an open net.

As the game went on, Arsenal failed to clear the ball again, and it fell to the player on the edge of the area. This time, Dumornay used her left foot to hit a strong shot high into the net, leaving Van Domselaar with little chance.

Arsenal tried to tie the game but couldn't find a way through. They have now lost all four of their recent games.

The league part of the competition is new this year. The Gunners have five more games against five different teams to try to make it to the knockout stages. They will travel to Benfica next week.

This game has been won eight times by Lyon, and the French team dominated once they got ahead. The Gunners tried to break through by sending long balls to Russo.

An early free kick was lofted deep into the area, and Caitlin Foord almost scored to tie the game late on. However, her shot into the sidenetting missed the mark.

In the WSL, Arsenal will play Brighton on Sunday. It has been a month since they last won a game.

Lyon last won this competition in 2022, when Sonia Bompastor was manager of Chelsea. They will be eager to get back to the top now that they are owned by Michele Kang, who also owns the London City Lionesses and the Washington Spirit in the US.

The rich American businesswoman was at Meadow Park and would have liked her team to avoid more damage than Russo's goal as Arsenal pressed early on.

And Dumornay quickly took over the game for the guests.

The 22-year-old was the player who was pushing the Arsenal defence the farthest when Van Domselaar missed a kick and created a great chance.

The home team had a hard time with Dumornay's speed and energy all night, but she also showed some skill.

She scored a beautiful goal from the edge of the area to put Lyon ahead, but she didn't stop changing the game after that.

Her passes into space behind Arsenal's back line put the wingers always in danger. She was at the centre of Lyon's efforts.

Before halftime, Dumornay had a chance to score a hat-trick when she took another dangerous shot from the edge of the box that went just wide.

It didn't matter that she didn't score the third goal; the away team left North London with three points.
