Discover Chelsea Peretti’s thoughts on the heartfelt Brooklyn Nine-Nine farewell to her character, Gina Linetti. Learn how the goodbye perfectly fit her journey on the show. Please take a five minutes applause break.Ok, the long-awaited salute is done, we should proceed to the goodbye of Brooklyn Nine-Nine by Chelsea Peretti. At least temporarily, Peretti is quitting the NBC comedy after over five seasons of dancing and laughing people. She will cease to be a regular on the series, but has already secured a return visit later this season.
Jake (Andy Samberg), the boyfriend of Gina, instructed her to go out alone and she did. She began dancing with the " The Linexit Dance. Then, she offered every one of her colleagues his or her own Gina moment during the following weeks, which might have been anything such as joining an international yoghurt club or playing chess and talking trash. Did you have any wish for your final run and/or episode after you realized that your usual run on the show was about to end?
Being in HSC comedy was what I wanted to do. It was my delight to go underground with Andy. Gina, as a citizen and not a police officer, appeared to have never heard a lot of stories. In my case, the character was spending much time at her desk, uttering weird or funny words or assisting other people to locate their routes. She had the answers to many of the stories on the show. I adore doing very rollicking comedy stories, however, since it is like religion to me. I also thought she was a little of an island; I had imagined that you could sort of pair off all the rest of the show as having friends, but not Gina. In this episode, it was pleasant to observe a bit more of female friendship. I would have preferred to be in Show stories with the other women.
You have a great scene with Stephanie, Melissa, and you have a scene with practically every other central character. That sort of thing mattered to you?
Okay, then. I say I can do it to the whole team face to face, but I believe that it is vital that the fans have such family moments.
You mentioned so to speak that Gina was on an island but I believe that the friendship between Gina and Jake, childhood friends, is one of the least discussed on the show. Were these two episodes nice to see that develop a bit?
I had texted Andy after watching the show last week something like, okay, that was emotional. Owing to the fact that I feel that we had that feeling at the time and then it was said by one of the creators, Dan Goor, that when he was editing it, but I was still not certain about how I was going to feel about watching it. Andy and I make fun of each other when we are together. It is not that we do not discuss serious stuff as well, but that was the scene that we finished laughing at, and this is why I love it even more. Thus, it was good to get into the details of our friendship more, which we have discussed so much over the years but has not actually happened very often.
The love between them was because of A.C Slater and Mario Lopez. Did you wonder why he was a good choice of a celebrity that Gina would want in her party but eventually refuses?
Alright, why not? Forever young. Although I did not exactly like Saved by the Bell, I like Mario Lopez [laughs]. Even though I thought it was a very funny look. I think that it is amusing that Jake and Gina could be enormous Mario Lopez fanatics. He was also very easy to deal with.
I did not even think that we could hear about him and never see him.
Suppose we were reading the story, and then we said to ourselves, Is this going to be Mario Lopez? Then, he comes out laughing. on crutches and hobbling upon our set as though he had broken his leg or ankle. Strange things happened.
As we returned to the start of the show, we were able to see a dance that was over-the-top titled The Linexit, which was understandable.
But I have not seen it yet, so I do not know what to expect. When I know that I did my best, I am nearly afraid to find out what is cut out. I believe I am addressing my foot, however.
Naturally there is a good deal of foot talking. I would prefer a director cut which has each of the four moves an entire 45 minutes.
And that is how long we seemed to shoot it, so who knows!
Even though this is the final episode of Gina, we still know that she will return later in this season. Do you have that on video yet?
Not yet, I'll do it soon. It became so fast that she was on set the following day.
With that in mind, what is your frequency of returning? On occasion? This time and then just returning to the series finale?
You never know whether the show is going to come back as the saying goes. The entertainment business is highly volatile at the moment. I believe Dan will call me and discuss it with me in case the writers are discussing a course of action they wish to take that must involve my personality. The only thing that can be said is the number of shows that will be having this season. It is one of those things and we are not going to tell you what will happen until it happens.
It is not really goodby, but what will you miss most about playing Gina every week?
Probably the friendships with the group. We were not all acquainted to start with; I knew both Joe and Andy, in the comedy business, but to know the other boys... The first time I met Andre Braugher, I referred him to Brogger. Thus, we have become very close and we keep chatting through text messages. Releasing the ties that we have created is definitely the most difficult thing. And I never used to go to the table read without Gina so that I could see what crazy things she would say, and would say them as different as possible. It is among my favourite aspects of comedy when a person says or does something that I am not expecting. It was always the good and bad thing about this character.
Consequently, the shows are aired too long after filming, thus I have been slowly digesting this. I am being asked to repeat all these feelings by all the people twittering about it now. You know, life is never the same. Playing along is fun.
