Before you try to hack into the show, read this to learn everything you need to know about the acclaimed tech story.

What is the story of Mr. Robot?

On the surface, Mr. Robot is about Elliot Alderson, who works as a cybersecurity engineer for the made-up megacompany Allsafe during the day and as a hacker cybervigilante at night.  He goes by the name Mr. Robot and heads a group of hacker activists called fsociety. In season 1, Mr. Robot hires Elliot.  The group wants to get rid of all consumer debt by encrypting all the data of E Corp, which is one of the biggest companies in the world and Allsafe's biggest client. Elliot calls E Corp "Evil Corp."  But just below the surface is a psychological thriller about the risks of consumerism and business, as well as mental health. Who plays the lead role in Mr. Robot?

Elliot Alderson is played by Rami Malek, but Aidan Liebman (seasons 1-2), Alex Bento (season 3), and Evan Whitten (season 4) play Elliot as a kid in flashbacks.

Mr. Robot is a mystery anarchist played by Christian Slater.  (More on this below.)

Elliot's younger sister Darlene Alderson is also played by Carly Chaikin. She is also a society hacker and malware coder.

Angela Moss, Elliot's childhood best friend, is played by Portia Doubleday.  Angela also works at Allsafe and then as the PR manager for E Corp.  Angela is played by Mabel Tyler as a girl.

When we meet Tyrell Wellick for the first time, he is Senior Vice President of Technology at E Corp, but he later joins fsociety. Martin Wallstrom plays him.  He is married to Stephanie Corneliussen and they have a son.  He came up with the popular phrase "Bonsoir, Elliot."

Phillip Price, the evil CEO of E Corp, is played by Michael Cristofer.

Dominique "Dom" DiPierro is played by Grace Gummer. She is an FBI field agent who is looking into how fsociety hacked E Corp.

Whiterose, played by BD Wong, is the secret leader of the cyberterrorist group Dark Army.  Whiterose is a trans woman, and it turns out that she is also China's Minister of State Security under her real name, Zhi Zhang.

Drug dealer Elliot Villar plays a dangerous role.  Rafael Vera.

Bobby Cannavale plays Irving in later seasons. Irving is a Dark Army fixer at night and a car dealer during the day.

 Who made Mr. Robot?

Sam Esmail came up with the idea for Mr. Robot and also hosted and directed the show on USA from June 24, 2015, to December 22, 2019.

How many years does Mr. Robot have?

There are 45 shows spread out over four seasons.  The length of each show is usually between 40 and 65 minutes.

When Mr. Robot first came out, what did Entertainment Weekly say about it?

Everyone who watched Mr. Robot loved it, and all four seasons have above a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show even gained a cult following.  Multiple awards were also given to the show, such as three Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a Peabody Award.  This year, EW picked it as one of the best shows of the year more than once, and for its first season, it was our No. 1 pick of 2015.  Jeff Jensen, a TV critic for EW at the time, said, "In 2015, TV's best moved us to feel, reflect, and tweet by surveying the relationship between broken people and broken society."  The thriller by Sam Esmail about the moral compromises and structural injustices of our time made me more angry than any other show.  Elliot, who felt like he didn't belong and wanted to fit in and connect with others, reset the hero who felt alone, which had an electric effect.  The mesmerising Rami Malek kept us emotionally involved in a mystery that kept us guessing even as it accused us of being "kingdom of bulls---."  Like the striking negative space style, Christian Slater's walking, talking gadget play went beyond being a gimmick by being many things: a broken way to deal with stress; a bad dream that went viral.  Mr. Robot was captivating and powerful, and it told us that "revolution starts under the hoodie."

How do I watch this show?

It is possible to watch the whole four seasons on Netflix.  Other places to buy them are on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, YouTube, and Fandango at Home.

Let's talk about how Mr. Robot ends.

Before the show's twisty last season, the season 1 ending had one of the best TV plots ever, setting the stage for everything that would happen.  Elliot's crazy thoughts and bad behaviour suddenly made sense when it was revealed that Slater's Mr. Robot character wasn't real at all. Instead, it was Elliot's other personality, showing up as an idealised version of his dead father.  It was even worse when Elliot realised he had forgotten that Darlene, his friend in high school, was actually his sister.  That hurts.

The ending of Mr. Robot was a positive one for mental health and healing, even though the show was often based on paranoia, anger, and fear.  Instead of actually tying up all the loose ends, it ends by bringing all of Elliot's personalities together and making them understand what they did and where they fit in the Mr. Robot world. This lets "the real Elliot" take back control of his mind.  When Elliot Alderson wakes up in a hospital bed, he has been healing from what happened in earlier episodes (in short, there was an explosion, Whiterose is dead, and a nuclear meltdown was avoided). This is the first time we meet the real Elliot Alderson.  He can see Darlene when he opens his eyes.  She says, "Hello Elliot," which sounds a lot like Elliot's first words in the first episode: "Hello, friend."
