Iyan-Tama took a Facebook commenter to court for allegedly defaming the name of Kannywood
THE FORMER Chairman of the Northern Film Producers Association (AFMAN), Alhaji Hamisu Lamido Iyan-Tama, sued a person who comments on Facebook in court for allegedly defaming filmmakers.
The suspect, Imam Aliyu Indabawa, made a post on social media against the filmmakers, claiming that they are corrupting the morals of the people, so politicians should not be the recipients of gifts.
As a result of his writing, Iyan-Tama, who is a famous actor and movie producer, filed a case at the Kano State High Court in Kano.

In the complaint document number K/2421, a copy of which was obtained by Fim magazine, the court required Indabawa to appear before it or send his lawyers on the morning of the 13th of the month.
However, Film magazine noted that there was a mistake in writing the date on the warrant.
Shortly after he was served with the summons on Sunday, September 4, 2022, Indabawa made a statement on Facebook titled “Filmmakers Are Trying To See My Back”, where he said: “I have just been fired after I came out and the man said that he was sent from the court and I have a summons. He gave me some documents that he was sued by a man named Hermisu Lamidho Iyan-Tama, because I wrote about filmmakers and said they are corrupting morals, who is also a filmmaker, and I wrote my expressing displeasure I know that a senator named Barau Jibril distributed cars, motorbikes, cameras, computers and money to the filmmakers while the needy are dying in the hospital because of lack of money for medicine, some are dying because of hunger. Then I support Governor Ganduje and I am against Barau Jibril knowing that Barau is fighting with Father Ganduje in their G7 group. This is my only fault.
Following the path of the Prophet (PBUH) of commanding the good and forbidding the bad and fighting against the lack of discipline is a crime that even tries to see the back of the person who commits it.
"I will follow up on the summons, God willing, it is very large. I will know the right step to take.
"God intervenes in our affairs."
Many friends of Indabawa on Facebook commented on the matter; some support it, and others say that what the producer has done is the treatment of their kind.
Another commentator, Nuhu Magaji Hassan, said: "God is better than them, you are with God, they cannot harm you except by God." He is not ashamed, by the way, because what you said is not a lie, if he has the shame to hide it, he should do it instead of trying to file a case in court."
As for Abdulrahman M. Bello, he said: "How long can a filmmaker have this privilege to the extent that someone who writes about the truth will be sued?" Of course, movie stars destroy morals and most of them are not rich people. And by God, we will not continue to watch these things happen."
On his part, a commentator, Comrade Jamilu Wahada, wrote on the defendant's page that: "You did them wrong." It is appropriate for them to take legal action against you. What do you have to do with their Hausa game? The one who has an opinion is the one who will watch or listen.
"This is injustice, injustice and blasphemy. You say that Hausa players are the ones who have destroyed the morals of the community. She is taught from home; if you see a person is corrupt, it is the negligence of those whom God has put in charge of discipline, but not the Hausa players.
"If you are going to do justice to them, even before the introduction of the Hausa game, Hausa culture has been destroyed. It is injustice that will make you say that they are the ones who destroy the morality of the nation."
When he turned to the filmmakers, Wahada said to them: "Take action against him because no one should do this kind of abuse to you again." If you leave the pulpit on Friday, you will be attacked and cursed; walking is impossible for you; You better spit on your nose."
He further said to the defendant: "Prohibition and good work, who will you give and who will you prevent?" Are you a teacher or are you an official who will keep doing bad things to people with lies? It's not right, it's not what you're doing."
As for Buhari, Ya'u Gumel, that he did the likes of Iyan-Tama "they are the cure for shameless seven-year-olds."
